Tips for trips

Walk Dwingelderveld
At a distance of 20 minutes you will find the National Park Dwingelderveld in Dwingeloo with several special walkroutes which are wheelchair-accessible. Absolute worth a visit; more information you will find in the information folder in the chalet.

Planetron Cinedome
Just outside Dwingeloo, at the edge of the National Park Dwingelderveld, you will find the Planetron Cinedome. A very special attraction, even just for the design of the building. On a large dome-shaped projectionscreen of 350 mē, the largest projectionscreen of the northern part of Holland, you can enjoy dazzling shows.
During the 360-film shows you will get the impression to be traveling yourself. The projection on the gigantic screen in combination with the soundsystem, that soaks you in a see of sound, will give you the sensation to be teleported to other worlds!
Planetron Cinedome als organises starwatching events.

  Cruise Giethoorn
'Venice of the North' as Giethoorn is called, is a 20 minutes drive to the west of Havelte. In Giethoorn it is possible for someone in a wheelchair to make a cruise along the canals, there is a special boat that is adjusted and accessible by wheelchair.

Roundtrip Weerribben
A visit to the National Park Weerribben-Wieden can easily be combined with a cruise in Giethoorn; Giethoorn is situated in the beautiful nature of De Wieden. Although the area looks pure and untouched, its mostly made by human hands. People came here in the earlier days to pull the peat out of the water and made it to turf. Everywhere in the National Park you will find the pattern of 'weren' (pullholes) and 'ribben' (beddings to put the peat/turf on). At some places they pulled out to much peat. Influenced by wind and waves the lakes ('wieden') were formed. After the period of becoming peaty the reed lands originated and shaped the landscape.

  Butterflyparadise "Papiliorama"
Just behind the chaletpark is the Butterflyparadise "Papiliorama". After the opening on December 21st 1998 the Butterflyparadise "Papiliorama" is grown to be one of the largest covered tropical butterflygardens of Europe. You should be there early, because the butterflies go to sleep early.

Northern Zoo Emmen
The Northern Zoo Emmen, former known as Northern Zoo, in Emmen is the biggest zoo in the northern part of Holland. In the past years it has become one of the most important attractions in this part of Holland. They are specialized in keeping hurds on relatively large areas.

De Kampioen, the monthly magazine of the ANWB has done research on accessibility of zoo's and attractionsparks voor disabled people.
The conclusion: "For people in a wheelchair the Northern Zoo Emmen has nice paths, minor slopes, minor stairs and allmost everywhere automatic opening doors.".
